Prince, aka His Highness, died in his sleep in the early hours of February 12, 2025. He was cuddled between his people, Nicolé and Lori, and passed peacefully at the approximate age of 17.5 years. He arrived in San Francisco at the seasoned age of 11 after brief stops at Solano county Animal Care and Control and Northern California Poodle Rescue. He enjoyed six and a half years in San Francisco where his high standards kept the household running smoothly. He was a dedicated sidewalk cleaner who did his part to keep the San Francisco streets free of pizza, chicken, croissants, and lemon cake. He also enjoyed ruffing it in rural Philo where he expanded his palate with dried mountain lion poop and basked in a multitude of animal smells both alluring and at times a bit too much for this otherwise courageous guardian.
A fit, 19-pound poodle whose perky ears and chiseled profile hinted of an illicit liaison in the family tree, Prince enjoyed multiple daily jaunts throughout the hills of his San Francisco neighborhood where his prance and regal bearing charmed humans and occasionally provoked other male dogs. A true protector who once drove off a deranged assailant from his human, in his latter years Prince learned that the postal carriers, delivery people, and joggers came in peace.
He is dearly missed. His humans are grateful that he departed after a week of sniffing butts, a rare play-date, checking his pee-mail, good walks and solid naps, adoring attention from strangers, a new yummy pork treat, and telling us what to do and fast.
